Tarot Cards Much More Than Works of

Like the symbols of astrology, Tarot cards represent the total energies of the Universe. Tarot, through its pictures, colors, and numbers, relates lessons, ideas, universal archetypes, and spiritual changes, and can help you develop intuitive powers. Each Tarot card is a work of art, and Tarot experts can tell just by looking at a deck which artist created it. Each card is filled with rich symbolism too. In fact, Tarot connoisseurs refer to decks by name the Crowley-Thoth Deck, the Universal Waite Deck, the Rider-Waite Deck, the Golden Dawn Deck, the Aquarian Deck, and the Morgan Greer Deck. Because every deck is comprised of different works of art (78 to be exact), it's no wonder that different people prefer different decks, just as some of us prefer Renoir over Picasso or Rembrandt. For example, consider the artistryinvolved in the imagery of the Tarot card for the Fool. This guy's heading straight for a cliff with total abandonment and openness That's the first thing you notice...

From the Worlds Oldest Book The Major Arcana

Those who read the Tarot well have spent years studying the symbolism and meaning of the cards. There are many interpretations, and one is that the 22 Major Arcana cards correlate to the 12 signs and 10 planets of astrology. While it's impossible to reduce the complex symbolism of Tarot to just one interpretation, we've listed the cards and their astrological equivalents, along with a few possible meanings, below, as an example. The Minor Arcana

The 56 Minor Arcana are divided into four elements, or suits Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. Each suit has 14 cards Ace through 10, and four separate court cards to represent the people and events of each suit. The separate court cards are the King, Queen, Knight, and Page. Each of the four suits correlates to one of the four elements we use in astrology, and each suit also has an energy, as you'll see in the following table. Energies and Elements of the Minor Arcana Tarot Deck Suit Pentacles Now, when you begin to add in the signs that these energies and elements represent, you also find the character of the Minor Arcana royalty. Note how each Minor Arcana court card has characteristics of each of its represented signs.

Tarot and Kaballah

The tarot is a set of cards related to contemporary playing cards that are used for divination. Tarot cards are often viewed as being an extension of Kaballah (or Cabbala or Cabala), a form of Jewish occultism. Kaballistic mysticism is built around the Tree of Life, a widespread diagram of the cosmos consisting of 10 circles (spheres) that are connected by 22 paths (lines). Each of the principal 22 tarot cards (the Major Arcana) is associated with one of these lines. Over the centuries, astrology and astrological symbolism became associated with both the tarot and the Kaballah. However, as systems that grew to maturity independently of the science of the stars, this connection was never quite natural. The difficulty is easy enough to see from a purely mathematical standpoint How does one appropriately associate 10 spheres or 22 cards with 7 planets (the number of significant heavenly bodies known to the ancients) or 12 signs Such associations, while useful in some instances, are never...

Special Thanks to the Technical Reviewers

The second edition of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Astrology was reviewed by astrologer and Tarot reader Arlene Tognetti, co-author, with Lisa Lenard, of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Tarot and Fortune-Telling. We thank Arlene for her attention to technical accuracy and insightfulness, particularly in regard to relationship astrology and astrology and psychic intuition.

Various Methods Of Kabalism

The Hebrew alphabet has special reference to the Tarot -which is obviously of Semitic origin, although it has received a more catholic interpretation. The method of applying the Tarot to the resolution of a person's signature is as follows - of the name, and this, added to the year in which the person is born, yields the sum of the nativity, which, when extended and added, gives the Tarotic signature of the person. Thus - Here the key number, 38 11, answers to the Tarotic Key called The Muzzled Lion, which denotes force, determination, mastery, vitality while the sum of the nativity, 1646 17, answers to The Star of the Magi, denoting hope, illumination, intuition, success. This interpretation is certainly apposite to the character and work of the epic poet. The 13th Major Key of the Tarot is The Reaping Skeleton, change, collapse, reaction, death and in the year 1674 John Milton died. Another method of using the Tarot Keys consists in adding together the year and the age a person...

That The Knowledge Of The True God Is Necessary For A Magician

The sixth name is Eloha, or a name of four letters joined with Vaudahat his numeration is Tiphereth, that is, apparel, beauty, glory, pleasure, and signifies the tree of life, and hath his influence through the order of virtues , which the Hebrews call Malachim, that is, angels, into the sphere of the sun, giving brightness and life to it, and from thence producing metals his particular intelligence i s Raphael, who was the ruler of Isaac and Toby the younger, and the angel Peliel, the Ruler of Jacob.

Tree of Life, or Otz Chiim (Etz 'Hayyim), and the complex pantheon of Egyptian gods. For Mathers, the magical dictum 'as above so below' was as strong an article of faith as his belief in the reality of the earth beneath his feet. As a result of this view of the world, Mathers was able to draw the most complicated parallels between previously diverse systems, using the numerical classification of the thirty-two Paths and Spheres of the Tree of Life which brought together systems based on the Triad, the Heptad, the Dodecad, the twenty-two Tarot Trumps, or letters of the Hebrew alphabet, the sixteen figures of geomancy, twenty-five elements and sub-elements, pantheons both European and Oriental, and the bewildering maze of spirits, Dukes, Earls and other Lords of Hell in the Grimoires.

The Kabalism Of Cycles

Such a factor is to be found in the numerical value of a person's name, as we have already seen, and this, when applied to the year in which that person was born, or in which any great crisis was reached, is found to have a kabalistic significance when reduced to terms of the Tarot - a favourite but by no means the only method of interpretation. Napoleon was born in 1769, and attained his 46th year in 1815. If now we add together 1815 and 46 we obtain 1861 1+8+6+1 16. Referring this number to the Tarot keys we find No. 16 The Stricken Tower , a man falling headlong from an eminence, his crown falling in advance of him. It denotes the judgement of Heaven, reversal, danger of ruin, disaster, catastrophe. It will be seen, therefore, that this number 16, and also 13, which is the Reaper or The Reaping Skeleton , i.e Death, are the most singularly fatal in the whole 22 keys of the Tarot. is here imposed, is agreeable neither to experience nor reason. In the numerical system, however, it is...

What Do They Mean in Your Life

Like the houses of astrology, the suits and the court cards of the Minor Arcana represent the areas and people in your life. In fact, now that you've noted their corresponding astrological elements and meanings, you may have a pretty good idea of how to interpret them. Can I Read My Own Cards

Well, of course you can First, you've got to have a deck of Tarot cards, although you can use a regular deck if you keep the common deck equivalents of the Tarot-deck suits in mind. Most books will tell you that the best way to learn to read Tarot cards is to just do it and we agree. Practice, practice. At the same time, though, as with anything that unlocks the unconscious, we also encourage you to get books or take classes from a pro. Otherwise you could easily misuse the cards and draw the wrong conclusions. We do want you to try reading Tarot cards, but we also want you to understand what you're doing Before you try doing Tarot readings, you should spend some time just looking at the cards and getting to know them look deeply into their eyes, or whatever it is you do to get to know people. You might want to relate what you see in the cards to things that happen in life so you can get a feel for them. It's usually easier to understand the cards after you've gotten acquainted with...

Shuffle the deck of cards, and then cut it into three separate piles. We'll use the 10-card layout called the Celtic Method. In this example, imagine that a student of Tarot (the seeker) has asked a question of the cards while she was shuffling. Here's the question, with the cards representing her future answers. (Note that in the Celtic Method, cards can be right side up, or upside down with the figure reversed.) The Celtic Method of Tarot card reading When you're laying out the cards, place them in one continuous line from card 1 to card 10. We've put the cards in two rows here simply to make the reading fit in the space we have. 6th Card, 8 of Pentacles What Will Occur 7th Card, Knight of Pentacles Fears or Attitude

The Consecration of Places Ground Circle c

It must be noted that vows, oblations, and sacrifices, have the power of consecration also, as well real as personal and they are, as it were, certain conventions between those names with which they are made and us who make them, strongly cleaving to our desire and wished effects, as when we sacrifice with certain names., or things as fumigations, unctions, rings, images, mirrors and some things less material, as characters, seals, pentacles, enchantments, orations, pictures, Scriptures, of which we have largely spoken before. There is another method extant among us of consecrating a general book of spirits which is more easy, and of as much efficacy to produce every effect, except that in opening this book, the spirits do not always appear visible. And this way is thus let be made a book of spirits, as we have before shewn, but in the end thereof write invocations, bonds, and strong conjurations, wherewith every spirit may be bound then bind this book between two lamens or tables,...

What You Should Do

We'll say it again Practice, practice, practice All of the metaphysical mediums, including astrology, Tarot, palmistry, and numerology, take years of patient effort, study, and practice to gain proficiency and accuracy. You'll want to consult Appendix C, Resources for the Starry-Eyed If You Want to Find Out More, at the back of this book for a selection of excellent reference books that are wonderful tools for a self-study of Tarot. Read up, reflect, and remember A picture speaks a thousand words Enjoy your exploration of Tarot. Tarot and astrology share both symbols and ideas. The Major Arcana cards correspond to the signs and the planets. The Minor Arcana cards correspond to the qualities and the elements. You can read your own Tarot fortune using any one or a combination of several interpretations.

Palmistry and Astrology

In the pyramid crypts of the ancient Pharaohs of Egypt, the Pharaohs' palm prints, as well as their birth charts, were displayed on their tombs. In the text of the Hebrew mystical writings, the Kabbalah, there are references and diagrams of the palms of people and their connections to astrology and the Tree of Life. And, in the Hindu tradition, there has been a correlation of both birth charts and palmistry for forecasting one's destiny for many centuries.

Brunos Symbolism

In the Tarot it indicates the Magnus , which is a symbol of the Creator, who produces the universe by the magical power of His ideation. Even the Ephesians, punctilious in all the externals of religion, erected an altar to the Unknown God , fearing lest in the construction of their pantheon they had ignorantly omitted one to whom recognition was due and it was the custom among the ancients either to add or remit one from the allotted number. Thus there came to be luck in odd numbers of which one was

Palmistry and Astrology Astropalmistry

In earlier times when the general populace's knowledge of astrology extended beyond newspaper predictions and sun signs, astrology was more than just the science of the stars. Properly understood, astrology was a universal language or symbolic code that contained widely recognized archetypes of general principles, types of humanity, and aspects of personality. Given the usefulness of this symbolic code, it was natural that astrological language and symbols would be adopted by other occult arts, such as the tarot and palmistry.

Dont Be an Idiot Be a Fool

The Fool is just one of the 78 Tarot cards. Tarot cards are separated into two categories the 22 Major Arcana and the 56 Minor Arcana. In Latin, arcana means secrets or mysteries of life. The Major Arcana are universal, or important, mysteries, which also correlate to the 12 signs of the zodiac and the 10 planets. The Major Arcana are connected to the archetypes that we all learn through worldly experience. In the old Tarot books, Major Arcana cards represented your destiny, or what was going to happen to you. Minor Arcana, the small mysteries, correlate to our use of our free will or choices. The Minor Arcana, like our everyday playing cards, are divided into four suits represented by the same four elements described in astrology. The suits are Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. Wands correspond to the element fire, Cups to water, Swords to air, and Pentacles to earth. The Minor Arcana cards represent your choices or, in other words, what you could do to change existing conditions....

Occultism and Astrology

Occult comes from a root word meaning hidden, and it was originally interpreted as denoting a body of esoteric beliefs and practices that were in some sense hidden from the average person (e.g., practices and knowledge that remain inaccessible until after an initiation). Alternately, it was sometimes said that practices were occult if they dealt with forces that operated by means that were hidden from ordinary perception (e.g., magic, tarot cards, and astrology). Modern astrology is not occult in the sense of secret initiations, but it is occult in the sense that it deals with hidden forces. In earlier times, when there was a widespread knowledge of the science of the stars beyond sun signs, astrology was a universal symbolic code that contained widely recognized archetypes of general principles, types of humanity, and aspects of the personality. Given the completeness of this code, it was natural that astrological language and symbols would be adopted by the other occult sciences,...

Kabbalah and Astrology

A very important model used in Kabbalistic teaching is the Tree of Life, which was already used during the era of, or maybe even before, ancient Egypt. The Kabbal-istic teaching had worked out this energetic model that shows how the universe came into existence. The different branches of the Tree show the stages of this development and provides a view and a key to understanding how the universe is composed. As above, as below is a well-known ancient saying, meaning that what happens in macrocosmos reflects in the microcosmos. Therefore, the Tree of Life also shows the structure of a human being from his most divine to his most earthly aspects. It is possible to overlay the personal astrological chart on the Tree to gain insight into these personal levels and how they impact daily life. Combining personal astrology with Kabbalah deepens and enlarges the insights in the soul.

Names Numbers And Incidents

To each letter of the alphabet a unit value is given, the valuation following the Hebrew code, as already given. These values are the multiplied by the inverse order of the letters, the products being finally added together. The unit value of the sum of these products constitutes the kabalistic key number. This key number being referred to the Tarot, an interpretation is obtained. Each of the Tarotic numbers has a fourfold interpretation, namely, a spiritual, intellectual, psychic, and physical, the correspondence running through from the world of principles to that of causes, thence to the world of effects, terminating in the world of ultimates, which is the concrete world of physical phenomena. The full interpretation of the Twenty-two Major Keys of the Tarot will be found in my Manual of Occultism, but I have thought it wise to give a brief rendering of the keys in these pages, as the reader is constantly referred to them. The method As casual observations they are useful and...

An Invocation of the Good Spirits

Now the lamen which is used to invoke any good spirit must be made after the following manner either in metal conformable or in new wax mixed with convenient spices and colours or it may be made with pure white paper with convenient colours, and the outward form of it may be either square, circular, or triangular, or of the like sort, according to the rule of the numbers, in which there must be written the divine names, as well general as special. And in the centre of the lamen draw a hexagon or character of six corners, in the middle thereof write the name and character of the star, or of the spirit his governor, to whom the good spirit that is to be called is subject. And about this character let there be placed so many characters of five corners or pentacles as the spirits we would call together at once. But if we should call only one, nevertheless there must be made four pentagons, wherein the name of the spirit or spirits, with their characters, are to be written. Now this lamen...

Pisces in Friendship Love and Permanent Relationships

Outings with Piscean friends will be most enjoyable. They will inspire us by taking us to art galleries we have not been to or if they are spiritually inclined, introduce us to all kinds of philosophies and disciplines. They might read our tarot particularly interestingly, or perhaps be students of astrology. If they claim to be psychic, the best advice and encouragement we can give them is to work with someone who is really experienced and knows what they are doing. otherwise their talent or gift can all too easily be misdirected.

General Traits and Background

The Bible likens the moon to the tree of life. The Cancer Woman is the tree of life and nourisher of others on the physical plane. She is invested in the basics food, shelter, reproduction. Her emotional life tends to be stronger than either her physical or her mental and logical impulses. If eros and logos are interpreted as respectively feminine and masculine, the Cancer Woman is definitely richly supplied with the first and undervalues the latter.

Avantgarde Attracts Abrupt Change Mental

Aquarius may identify with the Wheel of Fortune in the Tarot deck, for she lives at the hub of eternal flux. The coming and going of her mental tide may not ripple her surface, but the Aquarian female's calculator is more active than any computer. She justly considers the brain the most important human organ. Everything, in her opinion, is ruled by the brain its signals determine sexual arousal, illness, mood, and reaction.

Numerology

Many interpreters have used, with great success, the values attached to numbers by the Tarot, especially the Twenty-two Major Keys, which, as I have elsewhere shown, represent the three stages of initiation into the Mysteries, consisting of the ten, seven, and three steps respectively, and ending in 21, The Crown of the Magi, or 22, The Fool. 4 In the Tarotic enumeration, in its present form at least, 3 The Key to the Tarot, A.E.Waite. London Wm. Rider& Sons, Ltd The Hebrew method is employed for the kabalistic interpretation of the Scripture as in the Zohar. It is especially suited to the Tarotic interpretation by the Twenty-two Major Keys.

Of MAGIC PENTACLES and their COMPOSITION. WE now proceed to speak of the holy and sacred Pentacles and Seals. For these pentacles are certain holy signs and characters, preserving us from evil chances and events, helping and assisting us to bind, exterminate, and drive away evil spirits, alluring the good spirits, and reconciling them to us. These pentacles consist either of characters of good spirits of the superior order, or of sacred pictures of holy letters or revelations, with apt and proper versicles, which are composed either of geometrical figures and holy names of God, according to the course and manner of many of them, or they are compounded of all of them, or many of them mixed. The characters which are useful for us to constitute and make the pentacles are the characters of the good spirits, chiefly of the good spirits of the first and second order, and sometimes of the third order. These kind of characters are especially to be named holy. Whatsoever characters of this...

Its in the Cards

Tarot and astrology The Major Arcana The Minor Arcana Can I read my own cards Books with good interpretations of the Tarot cards Tarot decks have been found dating back to China and Egypt more than 4,000 years ago. And there are hints in metaphysical writings from this period that, by using Tarot cards' colorful symbols, groups of people who spoke different languages or dialects could communicate with one another. What a neat idea But there's a lot more to Tarot than just universal communication, as you will discover. Read on. These things being judiciously considered, let the circle be made at the place elected, as well for the defence of the invocant as the confirmation of the spirit. And in the circle write the divine general names, and all those things which do yield defence to us and, with them, those divine names which do rule his planet, and the offices of the spirit himself likewise write therein the names of the good spirits which bear rule in the time you do this, and are able to bind and constrain that spirit which we intend to call. And if we will further strengthen and fortify our circle, we may add characters and pentacles agreeing to the work then also, if we will, we may either, within or without the circle, frame an angular figure with the inscription of such convenient numbers as are congruent amongst themselves to our work, which are to be known according to the manner of numbers and figures delivered in our first Book. Then we are to be furnished with holy and consecrated things...

METHOD Naturally, the photographs are marked on the back. I found twelve similar sized photographs in magazines, which I mounted on card about the same size as a tarot card. On the back of each card I pasted a photocopy of an astrology wheel taken from an astrology magazine. I then faintly underlined the picture that related to the sign of the person in the photograph on the front. Next I made a list of the twelve people with their horoscope sign on another card. Finally, all thirteen cards were laminated. The people who did the laminating also put round corners on each card.

Success And Failure

The choice of a day must be made by its number, and likewise the hour and subdivision of the hour while association with any other person should be controlled by regard to his key number of birth, or if this be not known, by comparison of the two dates from the Table of Three. For it frequently happens that a person does not know the hour of his birth, still less the exact time, and in these cases the Table of Three may conveniently be used. But in every case comparison must be made from the same basis and by the same method, whether by the Table of Three, the enumeration of the name, the Tarot, or any other means.
