Folic acid's relationship with leukemia is one of continuing mystery. In some tests folic acid has sent the blood cancer into remission; at other times, according to some sources, the folic acid has precipitated a condition until it turned into leukemia. The vitamin has caused other types of cancer either to regress or to accelerate, too.
Other recent developments indicate that some cases of diarrhea can be overcome by administration of folic acid, vitamin B-6 or magnesium. Folic acid is also known to help victims of atherosclerosis in that it helps circulation of blood through the arteries, increasing the surface body temperature. And researchers have discovered that folic acid, found in concentrated amounts in the spinal fluid, increases the threshold of pain.
