Recommended Dietary Allowance: The need for PABA in the diet has not been established by the FDA. Adelle Davis suggests that supplements be sold without prescription and that 100 milligrams be added as a daily supplement. It does seem safe to make PABA available over-the-counter, since there is little use of sulfa drugs today in lieu of more sophisticated and synthetic derivatives on the market.

Therapeutic Dose: Under a physician's guidance 100 to 300 milligrams are recommended.

Megadose: Dosages of up to 20,000 milligrams have been reported, but such megadoses should not attempted without the strict guidance of an attending physician. !>' v


No toxicity level has been established; however, continued oral consumption of PABA is felt by some researchers to have negative effects on the heart, kidneys and liver. Symptoms of toxicity are nausea and vomiting.
