Although it is quite difficult to get a deficiency of sulfur because it is available in most foodstuffs, there can be problems involving the cartilage formations, such as stiffening and aching joints. The biggest indicator of a deficiency can be hair that becomes dry and dull. Fingernails may split and break off easily, never growing to any length. There may be back or disk problems, such as a hardening or loss of elasticity of the cushion that sits between each vertebra. In addition, a wound may take a long time to heal properly, health ailments in general will require a recuperation period much longer than expected, and skin problems, such as dermatitis, may appear.
